For those of you who don't know, my hubby is Active Duty military. We moved to Scott AFB a little over two years ago with the belief that this would be our last duty station. He has a little over 18 months to go, and with a three year controlled tour, we were assured by the powers that be, that there would be no more moving, deployments, etc.
Ok, I know all of you familiar with the Military are now laughing. Things never work out the way they "Promise".
So, as you can imagine, when my husband went to work and discovered he had orders, we were flabbergasted........We have a house and three dogs and a teenager about to start highschool. I admit it, I broke down over the phone. Then came the kicker.....
Oh, it's only orders for him. He will be gone on an unaccompanied tour for 12 months. WHAT!!!!!
So, I've been scarce lately because I'm trying to wrap my head around this newest development in our lives. Somehow I'm suppose to survive as a single Mom of a teenage girl and a 10 year old boy for 12 months while my husband gets to hang out in the resort town of Izmir, Turkey.
Don't get me wrong, I'm very glad that he isn't going to Afghanistan or Iraq or some other hotspot in the world....we've already done that. But, I really thought that the 12 months I did without him in 2000 when Katie was two was the only one of these I had to live through.
Anyway, enough of me whining. He leaves in October, and has insisted that I still go to convention and enjoy myself. I'm sure the shock will wear off soon and I'll be back to posting again, but I wanted to let you know what was going on....
Oh, and if you want to say a little prayer or cross your fingers for me and the kids, I would greatly appreciate it. We are going to need all the support we can get.
Hang in there girl!!! Been there done that and I do not want that t-shirt again!!! The stories I could tell you would curl your toes, but I lived thru the same thing 3 times. Family and friends will help get you thru this one also. Communication is so much easier than back in the early 1980's. I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers.
ReplyDeleteGod bless you and your family. Praying for you.
