To support our nation’s armed forces by sending blank greeting cards to write home on, as well as cards of gratitude to encourage them.
For those of you who don't know, my husband is Active Duty Air Force. I am what you would call a horrendous military wife. I can honestly say that I HATE moving all the time, I DESPISE the fact that he is gone for months on end, and I DETEST all the time I have had to play both Mom and Dad. Now, having said that, I have never been PROUDER or more AMAZED and HONORED to be part of this life. The men and women who give their time and their lives in order to fight for my freedom need to be remembered, recognized, and respected. I believe that cardsforheroes.org does just this. I am grateful to be a part of this mission.
Ok, enough of my babbling, on to the card. I made this card to send to Cards for Heroes. I am extremely grateful for everything these military members do, and I wanted to show my appreciation. The card uses Stampin' Up!'s real red, brilliant blue, and whisper white card stock. The small star stamp is a retired one, but the larger group of stars in the corners are from the current "Starring You" set. The blue star is made from SU!'s small star punch and the dog tags are punches as well, the key tag punch. The greeting is from the Upsy Daisy set. ReplyDeleteI so agree with you. BUT I also include the families of our military for their sacrifices and dedication - they are Heros too!
My son is Air National Guard and has just recently returned home from his second tour of duty in Kuwait. I see how hard it is on his wife (and they don't have any kids). But I am soo proud of our military. And I am so thankful for all the businesses and people who show thier appreciation. My son has gotten standing ovations in the airports and hundreds of handshakes. Businesses like Frito-Lay send care packages to their deployed employees. The local YMCA offers free membership for a year to him and his family. Auto part stores give them a discount. It's just amazing how many people come forward.
Oh ya, almost forgot. . . I love the card!
Thanks for your part in all of this.
Hey Sistah! Love the card but my FAV is the dog tags. AMEN to you also for stating what Memorial Day should mean but what it shouldnt. Have a GREAT Memorial DAY and I cant imagine what a military life is like but God only gives you what he knows you can handle. So I know you are an AWESOME military wife and a SUPERB mom (and dad).
ReplyDeleteI ask for blessings each day not only for the men and women that serve and protect; but for their families who also sacrifice.

My husband is no longer military, close enough though, he's in Afghanistan and gone about 9 months a year still protecting our great country without a uniform this time! So much for him getting out and finding a normal job...lol
ReplyDeleteAwesome card! I love the dog tags, so cute!

ReplyDeleteThanks so much for all you do in support of your hero...its folks like you we do a lot of our work for! (Coz we know a lot of the hubbies and sons may not appreciate the cards nearly as much as you!) Keep the faith, and thank YOU for serving from the homefront!

ReplyDeleteAs a fellow military wife, please let me say thank you for what you are doing. It's so good to know that there are others thinking of our loved one's when they're in harms way. What a wonderful way of showing your appreciation!
ReplyDelete(I'm right there with you on the "horrible" military wife! Luckily we haven't had to move yet, but my hubby is just about to return from his 3rd deployment - his first since becoming parents. This has definitely been the hardest....trying to play mom & dad!)
This is such an exciting event!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for all you and your family have sacrificed for our country. Your card is wonderful!!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for sharing a little bit of your story. I know it's tough, but I greatly appreciate your husband (and you!) for sacrificing time with family to help protect our freedom. Words cannot express my gratitude.
ReplyDeleteP.S. Cute card! Love the dog tags!
Great card Kelly
ReplyDeleteKelly,
ReplyDeleteI have never met anyone that liked it when their husbands were gone, etc. But you do survive. I know I did and my kids did. At three am stamping is great when you can't sleep because your husband is gone. That is why our stay at home family members are my heros. Hang in there. I loved your cards and blog. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for the reminder to remember Memorial Day for what it should be. And I love how your card turned out!
ReplyDeleteYour card is soooo pretty! I am enjoying this hop :)
ReplyDeleteWonderful card! And I don't think you are a horrible military wife for admiting that it just plain stinks. Sure ya sign on for it, when you marry someone in the military, but it doesn't make it any easier. I was lucky, my husband was stateside during the remainder of his service. I too would have made a horrible military wife! Keep strong, and thanks for sharing your cards, and tell your husband there are many of us out here that are thankful for the job he does!
ReplyDeleteYou're doing a great job, stand tall, we stand with you.
ReplyDeleteFrom one military family to another, thanks for your time and energy in support of your husband and CFH! My DH deployed to Afghanistan May 5th and just the other day on one of the rare occasions I received a phone call from him he was lamenting about standing in line at the makeshift PX for 30 minutes to only find birthday and graduation cards! So, he "made" me one (should be interesting!)... Anyway, I know the efforts must be appreciated!
ReplyDeleteHa, ha - but I was the worst military wife ever, so you can't be! I'm not sorry my DH is retired but I can't regret the 20 years he served because I met some amazing people as a result - and I'm meeting more today because of this bloghop. Hang in there, girlie!!
ReplyDeleteLove your card, Kelly! I used the Key Tag Punch too! Keep the faith!
ReplyDeleteI love the dog tag detail on your card, nice touch!
ReplyDeleteMy son is in the Marine Corps, currently serving in Iraq..he is my hero!
Great card! Thanks for sharing "from your heart" about life in the military. (Been there... done that...)
ReplyDeleteThank your husband for his service! I can't imagine how hard it is for your family & the sacrifices you make daily for our country. You really put a face on this cause & you're who we are doing CFH for (it's just a small jesture with lots of love & appreciation behind it). Thanks so much & you're awesome! Your card is too
ReplyDeleteI can't imagine what it's like to have a spouse in the military. Thank you for your sacrifice as well as his.
ReplyDeleteLove the dog tags! great idea!

LOVIN' the dog tag THANKS! TOO CUTE!
ReplyDeleteNot only is your hubby a hero, but so are you for what you do when he is away AND for when he is HOME, TOO! Being a mom is hard enough, but being a military wife and mom is even tougher!
KUDOS TO YOU!
Thank you for sharing your story! My dad was in, sister joined...then I joined (I'm only a veteran now, though). I fully understand the military life, too. It ain't easy. Being behind on the homefront taking care of business, stressing out...well...it's just hard. But, believe me your sacrifice doesn't go unnoticed. Thank YOU!
ReplyDeletePlease thank your hubby for his service to this wonderful country we live in.
And thank you for posting such a beautiful card as a tribute. I love the dog tags!
Enjoy your holiday.
I couldn't agree more! My husband is Army and will leave for his 3rd combat tour this fall, but I could not be more proud of him or my kids. I craft for sanity ;D
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for the sacrifices you and your family make. Your card is lovely, and thanks for participating in the hop.
ReplyDeleteKelly, thank you & your dh for the sacrifices you make daily! Both of you are heroes in my book!
ReplyDeleteI can only imagine how difficult it must be, and how proud you are to be his wife. Thank you too for your sacrifices so that your husband can serve. Wonderful card, I love the dog tags!

ReplyDeleteThe dogtags are the perfect touch-you rocked this. Thank you for reaching out to the troops!
ReplyDeleteKelly,
ReplyDeleteThank you for your honesty - I can't begin to imagine how hard it is - though I have moved a few too many times in my life. Bless you! Your card is wonderful - TFS
Great card! I was a military brat:), we moved every three years if we were over seas and every year when we were in the states which was every three years. My mom is German so we spent most of my youth in Germany. I was very anxious to get back to the states and be normal. I really do cherish my memories of that time now. There is no way we would have seen what we did or experienced so many things if we were not part of the military. Thank you for being there, waiting, taking care of the everyday things while your husband is doing the other part of serving. We appreciate what you do.
ReplyDeleteHappy Memorial Day! Your cards are beautiful and thank you for your creativity and dedication to this great cause. We are proud and grateful for your husband serving our country. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. My youngest sister is in the Army Nat. Guard and will be deployed to Afghanistan in Spetember. : ) Sb
ReplyDeleteBEAUTIFUL card Kelly! And, beautiful sentiment! I'll have to go on the tour later this afternoon....I have some yard work to get out and do before it gets too awful hot.
ReplyDeleteSuch a wonderful card!! Love the dog tags!
ReplyDeleteThanks to your husband and your family for your sacrifices! We move every couple of years for my husband's job and are in the Middle East right now so I can completely identify with one small part. TFS and Happy Memorial Day to you.
ReplyDeleteGreat card!
ReplyDeleteDay three and I am still hopping! I want to see, and comment on, every single participating blog in this wonderful effort!
Wonderful card! Please thank your husband for serving our country. And thank you for supporting our troops. And even tho you dont feel like a good military wife - I know you really are - you are by standing with him and making your sacrifices - thank YOU for YOUR sacrifices. Blessings.
ReplyDeleteOh, Kelly. I'm sure you are not alone in your feelings. As a military brat, I found it exciting - I was born in Germany, even!
ReplyDeleteAnyway, thanks for your support of CFH! Love your card, too.
You go girl! Thanks for your honest words and sacrifices you make as a military wife! Your card is great.
ReplyDeleteLove the dog tags! :)

ReplyDeleteKelley,
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing not only your card but your husband too. I have moved a lot so I can understand the frustration with that but I did it by choice.
Again, thank you

ReplyDeleteThank you and your family for your sacrifice. A big THANK YOU to your husband for his service. Great card.
ReplyDeleteThank you SO much for you and your family's service, and to your husband.
ReplyDeleteI love the card.
I think the blog was a great success!! Great Card, Kelly!
ReplyDeleteGreat card... thank your husband for us... and I thank you and your family for what you do to support him and our awesome country...
ReplyDeleteBless our troops this special day.
Cute card Kelly, I love the nod to the dog tags with the punch. Thanks for supporting and encouraging others to support CFH in their mission.
ReplyDeleteLove your pretty card.
ReplyDeleteLove your card! I have to say that I am also or horrendus army wife. I love my husband and I am VERY VERY proud of him! My hubs is in the Ohio National Guard and has been deployed twice. I too dislike the weekends and weeks when he leaves and I have to "do it all". It is very hard on me as I work full time and also have a part time job. I would not know what to do if he got deployed again, and I honestly don't think that I could do it. I know it is hard on him but it is also very hard on us. He doesn't get that part. I also have to deal with a lot of 'Army' girl drama and that makes me resent him even more.
ReplyDeleteI will always say that I love him more than anything and I am very proud of what he has done.
P.S. Hope you don't mind if I leave an additional comment.
