The Abandoned Monastery
While, Matt and I thought we were going to Greece, we discovered later that Cyprus is actually it's own country. The Island was involved in a war back in the '70's and now the Northern part of Cyprus is occupied by Turkey while the Southern half is occupied by Greeks. We didn't visit the Turkish portion of Cyprus, but we were told it was much much different. One of the things you can find all over the island are the Greek Orthodox churches and monasteries. I will admit, that I made a bit of a fool of myself by asking if the huge domed churches were mosques, but once we got that straightened out, everyone had a good laugh at my expense. When we went on our Donkey Ride, this abandoned monastery was our destination.
